Visit to El Mexicano in Bern
El Mexicano in Bern is located on the first floor. After climbing the stairs, you reach the entrance of the restaurant. The place features simple, Mexican-style decor. There are quite a few tables, with some booth areas along the walls. El Mexicano also has a winter garden.
While enjoying a bottle of El Presidente beer, we placed our order. I chose the Enchiladas con Pollo, which are tortillas filled with chicken and topped with melted cheese. My dining companions opted for the weekly special, an entrecôte with roasted potatoes, including salad and dessert.
The enchiladas were served on a wooden board, in a cast-iron skillet, along with refried beans, a taco shell filled with salad, and a corn cob. The filling was like "pulled chicken" – cooked and shredded chicken meat. The taste was good, but the texture was a bit unusual. Unfortunately, the filling wasn’t as hot as I would have liked. I got to try a bit of the entrecôte and the dessert from my table companion’s weekly special. Both were well-prepared, especially the profiteroles.
We drank Mexican wine with the meal, which was made from grape varieties similar to those in a Bordeaux blend. After that, we tried the Barolo, which was very enjoyable.
