Visit to the O bolles Restaurant in Bern

O bolles in Bern outside

When I visited, I was late, and my tablemates were already ordering. Because the server immediately told me the options – a menu with meat and one without – I could decide right away. Spontaneously, I ordered the pork chop.

The interior of the restaurant is very simply designed – guests sit at plain wooden tables. Also, the service is friendly, warm, and uncomplicated.

After ordering, the salad was brought to the table very quickly. The chop didn't take long either. It was gently roasted, meaning the inside was nice and juicy and not completely cooked through. It's not a problem anymore if pork isn't cooked all the way through. My dinner guest ordered a simple red wine from the Valais region.

When it came to dessert, the option was strawberries with vanilla ice cream. Otherwise, no desserts were offered. Also, when we wanted to drink a limoncello with our coffee, it wasn't available. Additionally, we couldn't order the cocktails that were advertised on the board, because the server couldn't mix them. Still, we left the restaurant satisfied.

Atmosphere at O bolles in Bern

O bolles in Bern deliberately keeps the interior simple, for example with plain wooden tables. Also, the menu is very limited. This contributes to the atmosphere exudes alternative charm. The clientele fits the ambiance of the restaurant, meaning it's more urban and uncomplicated.

Service

The server took our order immediately upon arrival. She also served the food quickly. However, there was only one person in service. Also, this person could not cover the entire range (e.g., drinks). However, the place is small, so an extra person in service would be too expensive.

Selection at O bolles in Bern

The selection is very limited, at least at lunchtime. In addition to two menus, there is exactly one dessert. Especially for dessert, O bolles could easily expand the menu by offering, for example, a cake or brownies. These dishes can be easily prepared and don't cause any effort to serve.

The guest would certainly would appreciate if at least a limited offering of drinks was available at noon. However, the service staff would have to be trained to make those drinks.

Quality

The quality of the food, salad and main course, was perfect. For example, the pork chop was still nice and juicy. In addition, the sweet potato puree side dish was creatively chosen and accompanied the meat perfectly. Also, the vegetables were cooked just right. This shows that a focused menu allows you to serve guests high-quality food.

Price

We didn't write down the prices. The O bolles website also doesn't list prices. However, from what we remember, the prices for the menu including salad and for the drinks were reasonable. So it's certainly possible to get a lunch with mineral water and coffee for about CHF 30. Including wine, we paid under CHF 50 per person.
